Fun Disney Secret or crazy Myth: During the Jungle Cruise, there is a point where you are attacked by a group of natives with large masks and spears. If you pay close attention when they start to shout, you may hear one of them proclaim “I love Disco!” However I have not been able to confirm this myself. Maybe you can. Attractions:
The Enchanted Tiki Room
Walt had originally intended for this to be a restaurant and not a show, but once someone mentioned to him that they didn’t think eating under birds was the best idea. The show opened to the public in 1963 and was the first to feature Audio-Animatronics. The technology was invented by WED Enterprises (Walter Elias Disney). This was favorite stop for many guests especially on hot day because it was air conditioned. This was another first at Disneyland but it wasn’t for the guests comfort but it was for the computers that ran the show.
Jungle Cruise
The Jungle Cruise was an opening day attraction and one of the highlights of the park. In it’s original incarnation the Jungle Cruise was not comical in nature but was more like a nature documentary. Walt overheard someone telling their child that they had already ridden it and didn’t need to go again. Shocked Walt put the imagineers on updating and improving the ride. The jokes and puns were also added to make people want to ride it again.
Indiana Jones: Temple Of the Forbidden Eye
You say dark rides are boring? Well then, you haven’t ridden Indiana Jones. Through the use of an Enhanced Motion Vehicle, guests are bounced, jolted and shaken as the jeep like vehicle motors through the ride. Every ride is different with special effects that change on every ride and the motions of the vehicle change too. The fun doesn’t come just from the flames and giant snakes either, The queue to get to the ride is equally entertaining. Walking through the temple there are plenty of interactive surprises that will make the kids (even the big ones) happy. During the movie portion of the queue, look up at the projector and you will see a sign with Eeyore, this is a nod to the old Eeyore section of the parking lot that the ride took over. The ride also cut in to a portion of the Jungle cruise and as a result your cruise is a little shorter now. Indiana Jones took more than 400 imagineers and 2 years to build.
Tarzan’s Treehouse
Standing high above adventure land is Tarzan’s Treehouse. This is a great place to get a good view of the park. If you enjoy Tarzan you will enjoy this attraction and the play area after you get down from the tree is a delight for children.
Before it was the Tarzan Treehouse it was the Swiss Family Treehouse. Prior to the re-theming and updating in 1999, this attraction allowed guests to experience what it would have been like to be in the real tree from the film Swiss Family Robinson film. Walt oversaw the construction of the treehouse and the authenticity and attention to detail was seen all throughout. The conversion is a real loss in my opinion but it can still be seen in Walt Disney World at The Magic Kingdom.
