Tinkerbell is one of Disneyland’s most iconic characters. She can be seen flying through the air over Sleeping Beauty’s castle at night during the fireworks show, giving kids a huge thrill. But I am sure most of you have never heard of the first Flying Tinkerbell. Walt Disney started looking for a Tinkerbell in 1961 to glide down a wire from the Matterhorn to the castle. Seventy one year old “Tiny Kline” was discovered. She was a former aerialist with Ringling Bros. and famous for her “aerial iron jaw act.” She retired from Disneyland and passed away in 1964. Here is film footage of her crossing Time Square with her teeth.

Attractions:
Matterhorn Bobsleds
The Matterhorn is exclusive to Disneyland California. While on vacation Walt discovered the real life Matterhorn and loved it. The legend goes that Walt mailed a postcard to imagineers a post card of the Matterhorn and on the back it said “build this.” This may be a fanciful tale but the fact is that this project was Walt’s plan from the start. There are other myths and legends regarding this ride and the biggest is that there is a full size basketball court in the top of the mountain. This is just not true. There is a basket ball hoop In a small room at the top of the mountain used by climbers during down time but not a full court. The Matterhorn is the largest structure in Disneyland and it is also the first tubular roller coaster ever built.
Mad Tea Party
This ride was an opening day attraction however it was not always in its current location. Originally the ride was located behind Sleeping Beauty’s Castle but was moved in 1983 when Fantasy Land was remodeled. Despite making some guests very ill due to the motion of the cups it remains a very popular attraction.
King Arthur Carrousel
This attraction is an authentic antique, built in in 1922 , it was transported from Toronto. It was featured on the opening day tv special. The carrousel was originally the attraction had giraffes, horses, deer and other wildlife. Walt wanted the carrousel to have white horses so antique white horses were found.
